Here's an idea Ben why don't you ask Gail if she can dig something up for you maybe a real Elefant or a Tiger. Postage might be a bit extreme. Just a thought.

O.K, So I finished my ISU-122s, and quite an impressive beast it is too! I am now currently building an Elefant, Going to go for a whitewash finish on it! This will be good I feel as everyone does them in the normal camoflauge.

Quick question about photo etch guys, may sound dumb but can you use them on any model by any manufacturers or only on the one listed. E.G. If it's a set for a Tamiya Stug III, can it be used for say, a Dragon, Revell or AFV Club model. Same question with interior sets, (and I know that it might mean a bit of modifying but thats not a hassle )

Same question with interior sets, (and I know that it might mean a bit of modifying but thats not a hassle ) Hi Mutz. Etch sets are usually designed to fit the model that they're listed for, so any parts that are designed to fit the kit exactly will probably not be quite right for other kits. Same with interior sets - they're generally designed with a specific kit in mind, and will probably need some messing about with in order to get them to fit other kits. If you're happy with modifying them, that's not too much of a problem. But I'd recommend trying to get the right etch set for the kit you have, if you can. It always amazes me how much variation there is in different kits of the same subject. Different sized wheels, different shaped turrets, sometimes even completely wrong sized hulls (yes, I'm looking at you, Academy). You'd have thought that, if the kit manufacturers had got their kits right, any part would fit any kit. But no. Rant over.

Pretty much agree with all of the above, it is not just the parts that may be slightly different but also how they attatch to the model. For example, a round gun barrel fitting into a square slot! Oh Yes, you know who you are Dragon and Tamiya! You can use the sets, but you do have to slightly modify them. External sets you tend to get away with more than internal!

Cheers guys, kind of suspected it but nice to get experienced advice. Knew the interior sets would cause problems due to differing ways of making up the hulls and I can see now how the exteriors can be a problem. Would this also apply to things like grab rails, light fittings engine grills, you know, the main small parts that get moulded over-scale?

Not really mate, and as I said you can fit anything, providing you are willing to put in the extra bit of effort in making them fit. Usually this means slight modifications, but they do fit eventually!

Another visit to the specialist at the hospital today . . . And because I was such a big boy a quick duck down to one of the larger hobby stores near the city! And I bought this rather than a lollipop!!! Is it just me, or is just having the unbuilt kits in your collection part of the addiction? Hopefully I'll start this one soon! I promise! Really! I do!

Finally finished the Male Mark IV tank from Hasegawa in 1/72 scale , while not a bad kit with noice rivets , the instructions were bloody useless not showing exactly where bits went , the anti ditching rails were also a pain as they came in 3 pieces and took some patient glueing over a couple of nights , parts fitted well with minimal finishing although one bit was cast incorrectly no biggie tho. There are decals for British and captured German tanks but I wanted to make like the ones used in the battle of Hamel , I hand painted the markings based on photos from the Australian War Memorial , these tanks came out in Olive Drab , Battleship Grey and Khaki Brown which is the colour I chose. I custom made an anti ditching beam from the sprue and added a tiny bit of chain , gave it a dark wash , bit of rust and wear and a coat of flat clear to finish Now to build a dio and use the Hat WW1 Australian Heavy Troops figures I have stashed, tomorrow nights project While I was at the shop today I bought this P-40E Tomahawk in Aussie colours for 20 bux , it's an Easy Model 1/72 scale pre built model done in resin , quite a nice model and there an Aussie Mustang there I'll have to get as well next visit During WW2 there were hundreds of P-40's stationed in Australia , we called them Kittyhawks and they were famous for crashing , it was said you could find Darwin by following the trail of crashed P-40's in the desert Might go in my New Guinea dio , just found some nice big display cases
