Hi Purplestump, Quote:Time for another viewing is it. What made you say that? Don't forget that just about everyone on here has broken those rules. I thought when you started with the 'Troll' stuff, you meant me - sorry bout that, crossed wires. Too many rules are bad, but a voluntary code of conduct is a good thing.

If you ever read any comments from GTE you wouldn't waste our time making comments in defence or trolls and such, and yes I do believe that a lot of your posts in the past have been antagonistic and designed to get a bite out of people or boost your post count which in part is troll like activity. Voluntary Codes only work on reasonable people which means thosewho are reasonable probably didn't need the code anyway but the people that are un-reasonable can't be made to follow it. We have had members like Jakeyb state the in the Australia Day Forum Quote:jakeyb wrote "just wondering dose anybody think hitler got it wrong with the jews" and Quote:"Australia should thank England" and now two posts back on here Quote:Genuine Tank Enthusiast wrote

Freedom is earned and has been earned in blood by both soldiers and civilians alike and should not be abused by sick at twisted individuals, if they can't respect it then it should be taken from them. If he's trying to get a rise from you, then don't take the bait.
If he merely disagrees with you, then you can try to reason with him.
If he is offensive, then you can just tell him he's out of line.
The horses comments are bizarre, but sometimes amusing.
Has he got any connection with tanks or the CTC?
My posts were not antagonistic, though some were - after I got whinged at. Boosting my poll count doesn't matter to me, it's just that new people will always post more initially, then it will level out. You yourself have only been here a few months mre than me, and have a high post count. Part troll like? OK, I'll accept that. :)
I think perhaps that people should be given more leway, not jumped on immediately. You can get some very bad types on Forums, this ones been relatively lucky IMO.
On Voluntary Codes? True, but the rules still need to be spelled out on a Sticky Thread. For example, I didn't know Forum members on here were so sensitive, going by the banter that was going on. But then that very banter breaks the Offtopic rule. This Forum is probably the most Liberal I have come across, and I think is all the better for it.
I think jakeyb just says the wrong thing. I think some of his more offensive posts is because he gets jumped on. I think Tiger Ausf E does it just right when he replies. I'll post some examples of 'taking the bait' so that people can avoid it in future. Newer members won't know GTE tough, so will probably 'bite' - that can't be avoided (unless put on a Sticky?). Also newbies are prone to being (wrongly) identified as trolls themselves. Though this is a good Forum, and is very noob-friendly in some respects (such as greetings) it is severely lacking in otheres (ie Sticky FAQs).
What was the 'heil hitler' for, anyway? Was it him saying you are draconian, or just for the sake of it?
On the Australia Day Thread? Well then that is bad, unless the discussion went offtopic.
I thought the 'Australia should thank England' comment was just ribbing, though I dont know jakeyb's history.
Freedom always needs to be faught for, it's what I believe I am doing right now, infact. Freedom has it's drabacks though - it is open to abuse, or being taken away. All we can do is try to stop it, and not give up. Also, we must not bulldoze those who differ away, however tempting that may seem.
Those Jonusb spammers etc definately need seeing to though. Or a good seeing to - by GTE?
